Sending Hagar away
When Yitzchak is born, Sarah tells Avraham to send Yishmael and Hagar away. Avraham tells Sarah to do whatever she wants. Sarah sends them away. When Avraham tells Sarah to do whatever she wants, why doesn’t he tell her to send Hagar away but let him keep his son? In my opinion, Avraham knows that even though he’d be devistated from losing his son, he can’t take Yishmael away from his mother. Sarah has had a child and no longer likes Hagar. Avraham agrees to let Sarah send Hagar away even though it isn’t the best thing to do.
Another reason Saah wanted them out of her house is because Yismael was a bad influence for Yitzchak. For this reason, Sarah would not have let Avraham keep Yishmael even though he was his son. It must have been devestating for Avraham to have to kick them out, but it was what had to be done in order to fulfill the promise. If Yishmael had grown up with Yitzchak there could have been terrible results. They had to go so Yitzchak could become a dedicated, loyal man of G-d that would one day become a fore father for all the Jewish people.
